Kralkizi-Dicle P4 Pumped Irrigation

Best Tasarim Insaat A.S. signed the contract for the Diyarbakir Kralkizi-Dicle P4 Pumped Irrigation Project, one of the most strategic irrigation investments within the scope of the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP), with the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI) on May 15, 2017.

Project Scope and Strategic Importance

The Kralkizi-Dicle P4 Pumped Irrigation is a large-scale infrastructure project aiming to irrigate 124,700 decares of agricultural land with a modern pressurized pipe irrigation system. The project constitutes a significant component of the comprehensive irrigation infrastructure that will deliver water sourced from Kralkizi and Dicle dams to the fertile agricultural lands in Diyarbakir's Kayapinar, Ergani, Cinar, and Bismil districts.

Position Within GAP Irrigation Targets

The Kralkizi-Dicle Irrigation Project is part of a broad-scale program that envisages opening a total of 1,150,000 decares in the Diyarbakir region to irrigation within the scope of the GAP Action Plan. Kralkizi and Dicle dams, operational since 1997, along with the 218-kilometer gravity main canal, constitute the fundamental infrastructure elements of this program. The P4 Pumped Irrigation represents a critical step in realizing this grand vision.

Expected Contribution to the Regional Economy

Upon completion of the project, the transition from dryland to irrigated farming in the region will accelerate, and crop diversity and agricultural productivity will increase significantly. On lands where currently only wheat, barley, and lentils can be cultivated, the production of high-value-added crops will become possible through irrigated agriculture. This transformation will provide a direct improvement in the income levels of regional farmers, support rural development, and contribute to the prevention of migration.
