GRP Pipe Laying at Elazig Kanatli Dam Irrigation Continues at Full Pace
2017Kanatli Dam Irrigation Construction
Construction works within the scope of the Kanatli Dam Irrigation project, being built on the Peri River 90 kilometers east of Elazig province, are continuing at full pace. Irrigation water sourced from Kanatli Dam through the gravity method will be delivered to 70,920 decares of agricultural land via a modern pressurized pipe irrigation system.
Technical Specifications and Construction Progress
Within the scope of the project realized with a total investment of TRY 74,800,000, GRP (Glass Reinforced Polyester) pipe procurement has been completed and field construction has commenced. The main pipeline of the project has a total length of 36,048 meters, with a 203-meter tunnel crossing along the route. Pressurized pipe irrigation line laying and engineering structure construction works are being carried out in accordance with the planned program.
Benefiting Settlements
The Kanatli Dam Irrigation covers 19 settlements within the boundaries of Elazig's Kovancilar and Karakocan districts. The fertile agricultural lands of the villages of Durmuslar, Karasungur, Asagi Mirahmet, Demirci, Bayramyazi, Kuscu, Basyurt, Deveci, Koryusuf, Asagi Ovacik, Mahmutlu, Mirahmet, Yuzev, Cumhuriyet, Kumbet, Akbulak, Maksutali, Isabey, and Akyokus will be opened to irrigation upon completion of the project.
Economic Contribution and Employment
Upon completion of the project, an annual contribution of TRY 39,000,000 to the national economy is targeted. With the transition to irrigated agriculture, the agricultural production capacity and crop diversity in the region will increase significantly, creating direct and indirect employment opportunities for 141,840 people.
